Art Director

We’re on the lookout for an Art Director to join our thriving creative team at Focus. The role of Art Director is to work under the guidance of the Creative Director to help oversee the designers and achieve the highest possible creative output from the entire Creative department. It will require being involved in idea generation, project planning and the successful delivery of all creative campaigns, marketing communications and advertising requirements to exceed our client’s expectations.

On a daily basis, they will not only lead from the front with their own expert creativity and problem-solving abilities, but they will be responsible for ensuring the designers follow suit by consistently delivering highly competent visual solutions to the highest standards on time and to brief. They will also be responsible for helping the Creative Director continually develop the Creative department by managing the individual designers and helping them evolve, improve and develop their creative abilities. This involves appraising individuals in conjunction with the company-wide procedures and providing feedback to the Creative Director.

As deputy to the Creative Director, they will be required to manage projects and deliver winning pitches either in tandem or isolation (depending on the circumstances). This may include liaising and managing external suppliers/partners such as Photographers, Videographers, Copywriters, Printers etc. Other ad-hoc duties or requirements may occur at the discretion of the Creative Director.

Person Specification

Qualifications 

  • A relevant Art / Design Degree

 

Experience 

The right candidate must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of agency experience
  • An outstanding and highly-creative portfolio
  • Clear and recognisable expertise in creative idea generation and problem-solving
  • Lead Designer responsibilities or similar exposure in current or previous roles
  • Obvious experience with multi-channel design projects and marketing campaigns
  • Experience managing people or a team

 

Knowledge & skills

Knowledge required:

  • A well-rounded and extensive understanding of design and design best practice is essential
  • Delivery of multi-channel design and marketing communications
  • Expert Creative Suite understanding

Skills required:

  • A highly creative eye with the ability to improve and develop creative ideas of their own or of others
  • Advanced creative problem-solving and concept development abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong time management, project delivery and brief interpretation abilities
  • Great presentation skills
  • Good leadership qualities
